Curriculum Materials
Available curriculum materials that can be used to teach self-determination knowledge or skills, or selected component skills of self-determination (e.g., choice-making, problem-solving), were reviewed as part of the Synthesis Project. A complete list of all the curricula is available as a printable Adobe Acrobat file. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer, you can follow this link to obtain the free software from the Adobe web site. .
Information about the publisher, audience, and format of each curriculum is included in the tables. A mark in the box next to "field test" indicates that the author reports the materials were field tested. It does not, however, indicate the outcomes of the field test.
More information about these curriculum materials and on choosing a self-determination curriculum for students can be found in the October/November 2000 issue of Teaching Exceptional Children. In-depth reviews of some of these materials can also be found in A practical guide to teaching self-determination, co-authored by Field, Martin, Miller, Ward, and Wehmeyer, and published by the Council for Exceptional Children.
